"Shared holy place" or appropriate? The patrimonialization of the Ghriba in Djerba and its pilgrimage. The Ghriba, synagogue of Djerba which hosts a pilgrimage in honor of a fairly enigmatic saint, has for several decades been at the heart of complex heritage issues, partly because of its status as Jewish heritage on a land of Islam where a community still lives, on the other hand linked to the tourist development of the island, since it has become one of the sites that one "must" visit, and to a form of nationalization. That is accompanied by a process of appropriation reinforced by the discourse of certain anthropologists: Ghriba would be a "shared holy place" by the Jewish and Muslim faithful, even "Judeo-Muslim"! However, if indeed a Muslim practice develops, it is due to new circumstances, while one would like to believe that it has always been so. Ghriba being the only element of Jewish heritage taken into account in the project of inscription of Djerba in the World heritage, one understands the ambiguity of the current process which does not integrate the exceptional architectural and cultural property of the Djerbian Jews, but a hybrid monument, of high political and tourist value and even "shared” ...
